Congratulations! I only listed my Facebook profile. But this was when I booked my appointment and social media vetting wasn’t a thing. They kept my passport as well but i’m in AP. I have an instagram account (which is also public) but I don’t use it much. Do you think that would be a problem?

FINALLY someone made a post INCLUDING the SOC codes. People don’t understand that the said £41,000 is NOT applicable for all cases in the UK and that it literally depends on department and type of work. I always come across this problem working as immigration advisor. I hate destroying the dreams of others but the rules are getting stricter each year. And not to mention the cost it takes for employer to pay for sponsorship + ethical questions of what if employee starts a family and then requires support for kids and partner… every company operates differently but imagine saying to employee’s face ‘we will support your new extension or swap to ILR but we can’t support your family dependents’ and if family doesn’t have enough resources there is not much to do.

I know an Indian chap who worked for UBS at Canary Wharf transfer from India , his kids went to the same school as mine.
The family had plans to stay long term, they had a house on rent a leased car, kids were in various clubs. Then, within a year, it was over, something about not renewing the Visa sponsorship I think, but they had to leave, and go back to UBS in India. So that meant early termination of the house and car, kids pulled out of school , this happened over a period of months so not as sudden as it may sound.

Unfortunately this applies to healthcare students too atm, as many trusts are on hiring freezes or need to cut costs so aren’t sponsoring. I know many physios graduating this year and struggling to get jobs due to the competitiveness.

**When you can be paid less**

You might still be able to apply for a Skilled Worker visa if your job is eligible but your salary is less than the standard salary requirement of £41,700 or your job’s standard ‘going rate’.

You can be paid between 70% and 90% of the standard going rate for your job if your salary is at least £33,400 per year and you meet one of the following criteria:

* you’re under 26, studying or a recent graduate, or in professional training
* you have a science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM) PhD level qualification that’s relevant to your job (if you have a relevant PhD level qualification in any other subject your salary must be at least £37,500)
* you have a postdoctoral position in science or higher education

This would bring it down to £38k for a CS Grad. Which is do-able if you use the 2-year (soon to be 18 months) graduate visa to get a good entry-level job or graduate program in London so that by the time you're about to run out of time on your graduate visa, you've received enough of a raise to get sponsored.

Of course this means that if you're an international student who's trying to immigrate into the UK, you have to work really hard at uni, get a first class and do an internship every single summer, and hunt down that return offer. Some international students, especially the filthy rich from China, won't be taking things seriously because they mostly go back to their home country but that won't work for you.

Ultimately, the easiest way to immigrate into the UK will probably always be marrying a local. That's what OP has done anyway.

The one person who I know actually did make the move was a guy who did a funded chemistry PHD in the UK. He got a post-doc in London that was funded by the UKRI and then switched to the global talent visa which gives him 5 years to get ILR. From the new changes it's probably the only reasonable way if you want to stay in the UK.

Where is the £55k number from? I am aware last year they increased it to ~£38k for Skilled Worker visa.

Also for internationals, if you are thinking the Graduate Route visa also bear in mind that it'll likely decrease from 2 years to 18 months very soon. As the OP said it is also likely that it will get worse in the long term. Especially bear in mind that there's a political shift towards more right wing parties and I'm thinking that surely can't affect immigration well hahaha, so next election can also cause sudden changes for that. Of course I am not that knowledgeable on UK politics so don't take my word

That is simply not true from my experience as an international student who switched to SW. There are different avenues - e.g. you can stay at Graduate visa for 2 years (in some cases, longer), and the salary is then achievable as you're no longer a grad but have 2 years experience minimum under your belt. Then, there are discounts on salary for new entrants etc. If you consider further education or other visas (Exceptional Promise, Scale-Up, Youth Mobility, Tier 5 - depending on nationality/situation), then your pool of options widens. It all comes to knowing your options inside out, getting the best possible legal advice you can (solicitors, not 'agents/scammers') and not only focusing on 'Student visa to SW visa' route. Don't get me wrong - it's hard and you have to work hard to achieve it - but it's not at all impossible. Also lots of people get back after studies, then come to the UK as experienced professionals 3-5 years later.

So I will disagree on one aspect in saying it's outright impossible. Even in this market, you have primarily internationals getting hired for roles in healthcare (and very niche stuff on the non-clinical side), but that's obviously a small number and the salary is very shite even if you get sponsorship. Doesn't mean people shouldn't try and the market may very well change in the next couple years, but yeah, this is the hardest it has ever been if you are an international wishing to stay in the UK beyond the two years after your course on the graduate visa.

There'll definitely be people with social media who don't declare it, setup fake profiles, or delete it prior to the visa interview. 

The burden is on the applicant to prove to the consular officer that the information on their application is genuine. Whether they believe you don't have social media will likely depend on how commonly those of your age/country of residence don't have social media, and other fraud indicators. 

If the consular officer isn't convinced, they'll probably deny the visa.
